Tiger Woods started his career as a golfer. He was up in Orange County, California, where he attended the University of Southern California. Earl Woods introduced him to golf when he was only two years old, and he went on to become one of the greatest golfers of all time. One of the first African-American collegiate baseball players at Kansas State University, Earl had a single-digit handicap on the golf course.
He was able to play at the Navy golf course next to the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos since his father was a member of the military and had playing rights. Long Beach’s Heartwell Golf Course, a par-3, as well as a few of the city’s municipal courses, have both seen Tiger play.
He faced up against comedian Bob Hope on The Mike Douglas Show in 1978. He shot a 48 over nine holes at the Navy course when he was three years old. This little golfer was featured in Golf Digest and on the television show, That’s Incredible! when he was only five years old! In the Drive, Pitch, and Putt tournament conducted at the Navy Golf Course in Cypress when he was seven, Woods took first place in the Under Age 10 division.
