Katrina Kaif received her first modelling assignment, after winning a beauty contest in Hawaii when she was only 14 years old.
She was regularly seen at London Fashion Week after she took modelling as a profession in London. Then, she was working as a freelance for various agencies.
In 2003, she came to Mumbai to audition for the film Boom along with her sister Christine. She was even supposed to make her debut in Bollywood with the film Saaya, which was opposite John Abraham.
But, had to settle down with the erotic film Boom because she was unable to speak Hindi back then. Boom’s director Kaizad Gustad and producer Ayesha Shroff take the credit to name her Katrina “Kaif”.
In 2004, she played the role of a titular princess in the film Malliswari which was Telugu based.
In 2005, she appeared opposite Salman Khan in Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? which was David Dhawan’s romantic comedy. This movie earned her the first success in Bollywood.
