Kamal Haasan or Parthasarathy Srinivasan is an Indian actor, lyricist, producer, dancer, and politician who works mainly in the Tamil film industry. He has worked in several commercial and critically acclaimed blockbusters in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and Telugu languages. He was the highest-paid actor in Indian cinema at one point in time.
The actor has won 19 Filmfare awards and four National Awards to date. He was conferred the Padma Shri in 1990 and Padma Bhushan in 2014. He has completed over 60 years in the Indian Film Industry and has acted in over 220 movies. In 2018, Kamal Haasan launched his own political party called Makkal Needhi Maiam in Madurai.

Kamal Haasan was born into a Tamil Iyengar family in Paramakudi which is a district in Tamil Nadu. He is an Indian by Nationality.
His father’s name is D. Srinivasan who was a criminal lawyer.
His mother’s name is Rajalakshmi Srinivasan and she is a housewife.
He has two daughters Shruti Haasan and Akshara Haasan.
Kamal Haasan is the youngest of four siblings. He has three elder siblings namely Charuhasan, Chandrahasan and Nalini Raghu.
Kamal Haasan is currently unmarried. He got married for the first time in 1978, at the age of 24, to Indian classical dancer Vani Ganapathy. They got divorced in 1988.

Career
Kamal Hassan started his career in1960 in M. Saravanan’s ‘Kalathur Kannamma’. He even won the Rashtrapati Award for his performance in the movie. He was only four years old at that time.
In 1962 he made his Malayalam debut by working in K.S. Sethumadhavan’s ‘Kannum Karalum’. After this Kamal Hassan took a seven-year break from the film industry and made a come back as a dance assistant under the tutelage of choreographer Thankappan. He assisted choreographer Thankappan in a few movies and even appeared in a dance sequence in a movie called ‘Maanavan’ in 1970. In 1974 he played the lead role in M.T. Vasudevan Nair’s ‘Kanyakumari’. The actor won a Filmfare award for his role in the movie. After that, in 1975, he played the lead role K.Balachander’s ‘Apoorva Raagangal’. His performance was deeply appreciated in the movie and he won another Filmfare award for the same.
In 1976, Hassan collaborated with K. Balachander for another project titled ‘manmadha leelai’. After that, he appeared in S.P. Mutguraman’s ‘Oru Oodhappu Kan Simmitugiradhu’. It was a hit Tamil movie. This film was remade in Telugu in 1979 and Hassan was a part of it.
In 1977, Kamal Hassan made his Kannada debut in his mentor Balu Mahendra’s movie ‘Kokila’. In 1977, he starred Bharathirajaa’s directorial debut ’16 Vayathinile’. In 1978 he won another Filmfare Award for Bharathirajaa’s ‘Sigappu Rojakkal’.
The same year Hassan made his Telugu debut in ‘Maro Charitra’. In 1979 he appeared in Singeetam Srinivasa Rao’s ‘Sommokadidi Sokokadidi’. He also appeared in movies like ‘Ninaithale Inikkum’ ‘Neeya’ and ‘Kalyanaraman’. By the end of the 70s, Kamal Hassan was a big star with many awards to his name.
In 1980, Hassan starred in ‘Varumayin Niram Sivappu’ and this movie was shot in Telugu too ‘Aakali Rajyam’. For this role, he won a Filmfare award in Telugu. In the same year, he appeared in some more Tamil and Telugu movies like ‘Guru’ ‘Maria’ ‘My Darking’ and ‘Ullasa Paravaigal’.
In 1981 he made his debut in the Hindi film industry with K. Balachander’s ‘Ek dooje ke lie. This movie paired him with Rati Agnihotri. In 1981 he appeared in his 100th film titled ‘Raja Paarvai’ for which he won a firmware award too.
He won his first national award for Balu Mahendra’s Tamil movie ‘Moondram Pirai’ also starring Silk Smitha and Sridevi. This movie was remade in Hindi as ‘Sadma’. Around the same time, he worked on a few Hindi remakes of his Tamil movies. In 1983 he won the Nandi award for best actor for K.Viswanath’s ‘Sagara Sangamam’.
He then dabbled more in the Hindi film industry with Rajkumar Kohli’s ‘Raaj Tilak’ (1984), Saagar (1985), ‘Geraftaar’, and ‘Dekha Pyar Tumhaara’ he left Bollywood for some time.
