Career
Jackie Chan began his film career at the age of 5 when he was featured as a child actor. He made his second appearance in Big and Little Wong Tin Bar in 1962 along with some of his “Little Fortunes” when he was only 8 years of age. He later starred in some films in the subsequent years including The Love Eterne and Come Drink with Me but these were not that significant because in the first movie he starred as an extra and in the second one he got only a small role.
His first major break came with the movie, Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow, after which he was loaned to Season Film Corporation with whom he signed a two-picture deal.
Though film producer of the Hong Kong industry was impressed with Jackie Chan’s martial arts and stunts and offered him acting roles in Hand of Death and New Fist of Fury, where he had to learn the martial arts style of Bruce Lee, the films failed in the box office.
The stage name of Jackie Chan also changed during this time, when he was called Sing Lung, meaning “become the dragon”. This name was modeled on Bruce Lee, which was a nickname he earned that meant “Little Dragon” in Chinese.
Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow came out successful at the box office and equally impressed the audiences, who were amazed by the comedic kung fu that Jackie Chan portrayed. Chan then went on to act in Drunken Master, a film that elevated Jackie Chan’s standing as an actor in mainstream movies.
Jackie Chan later returned to Lo Wei‘s studio again and was offered roles in Half a Loaf of Kung Fu and Spiritual Kung Fu as an actor and a Stunt Director.
However, when Willie Chan left the studio and asked Jackie Chan to think about what he will do, then on second thoughts he too left the studio and became the center of a dispute, which was later resolved with the intervention of Jimmy Wang Yu. This happened during the shooting of The Fearless Hyena II, part I of which was directed by Chan himself.
