Career
Idina Menzel auditioned for Rent in 1995. After getting selected for Rent, it became Idina’s first professional theatre job, which later helped her in her Broadway debut. Idina was cast as Maureen Johnson in the original cast of the musical for which she received a Tony nomination as Best Featured Actress in a Musical.
After her successful debut with Rent, Menzel released her first solo album on Hollywood Records, Still, I Can’t Be Still. She then chooses the ole of Dorothy in Summer of ‘42, cast as Sheila in the New York City Center Encore! And later as Amneris in Aida.
She was also cast as Kate in the Manhattan Theatre Club’s 2000 Off-Broadway production of Andrew Lippa’s The Wild Party. The pre-Broadway run of Rent and The Vagina Monologues were some other Off-Broadway credits where she was cast.
