At the start of his career, Trump worked for Trump Management, a real estate firm established by his father Fred that controlled middle-class investment properties in New York City’s outlying areas.
He became the CEO of the business in 1971 and started adopting The Trump Organization as an organizational name.
When his family’s debut Manhattan project, the rehabilitation of the abandoned Commodore Hotel next to Grand Central Terminal, was launched in 1978, Trump gained widespread notice. An exemption of $400 million in metropolitan estate taxes made the funding possible.
