Deepika Chikhalia has won over the hearts of millions after playing role of Sita in Ramanand Sagar’s epic television series Ramayan. The show got aired in the late 1980 on Doordarshan channel. Deepika has gained a lot of recognition for her role in the serial and has become a successful Indian actress ever since.

Deepika Chikhalia was born in Bombay on 29th of April 1965. Being an April born, her zodiac is Taurus. Presently she is 55 years of age. Her original name was Deepti Chikhalia that later got changed to Deepika. She was brought up in Girnar apartments in Pali hills in the suburbs of Bandra, MMumbai. Since her childhood, she displayed highly qualified skills of being an actor and this talent led her to become a successful actress of her time. Her career initiated when she was in school. She was offered several TV shows and serials based on her acting skills. She enter the acting field at a very early age when she was just 14, since then she has gained a lot of fame because of her talent.
She further completed her higher studies and completed the graduation from University of Mumbai (Bombay).
Family
Deepika belongs to a Gujarati Hindu family and was raised in Mumbai. Her father’s name is Rajesh T. Chikhalia. There is not much known about her mother.
Relationship and Marriage
Deepika Chikhalia was married to Gujarati businessman, also the owner of Shingar Bindi and Tips and Toes Cosmetics, Hemant Topiwala. She tied knots with Hemant on 22nd of November, 1991. With Hemant, she has two daughters named Nidhi Topiwala and Juhi Topiwala. Nidhi is a make-up artist by profession and was born in 1993.
Career
Deepika made her entry in Bollywood in 1983 with the film ‘Sun Meri Laila’ and played the lead role of Annie along with actor Raj Kiran. Her debut film was a hit show at the box office but she couldn’t have A-grade movies for long. She also appeared in several movies in supporting roles such as Bhagwan Dada (1986), Kala Dhanda Goray Log (1986), and Doorie (1989).
Not long enough, she was soon seen in B-grade horror movies titled Cheekh (1986) and Raat Ke Andhere Mein (1987).
She once again stepped back to doing A grade films where she gave two hit movies named Ghar Ka Chirag in 1989 and Rupaye Dus Karod in 1991. In both the movies she played a supporting role alongside Rajesh Khanna in the lead role. In 1994 the film which featured her in the lead got flopped. She not only worked in Hindi cinema but also made a significant impact on films of other languages including Bhojpuri, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Bangla and Gujarati.
After a long break of 23 years, Deepika once again stepped back in the Industry with Gaalib in 2018. She played the role of Afzal Guru’s wife, Shabana Ahmad.
In the same year, she also did a Gujarati movie named Natsamrat. Recently, in 2019 she appeared in the movie ‘Bala’ as Yami Gautam’s mother.
It was the small screen that attracted Deepika the fame she deserved with the iconic role of ‘Sita’ in Ramanand’s ‘Ramayana’. She has already worked with Ramanand in two other TV serials named Dada Daadi Ki Kahani in 1985 and Vikram Aur Betaal in 1988. She again played the role of Sita in the Ramayan series – Luv Kush (1988).
Her comeback in TV serial was marked by Chutta Chheda (2017), on Colors Gujarati channel.
Politics
Deepika Chikhalia has been a member of Bharatiya Janata party since 1991 and has worked with LK Advani and Narendra Modi from the Vadodara constituency of Gujarat.
