Dak Prescott started his career by playing football in college. In 2011, He redshirted at Mississippi State.
A backup to Tyler Russell in 2012, he completed 18 of 29 throws for 194 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions in 12. He ran for 110 yards and four touchdowns on 32 attempts.
He started the 2013 season as Russell’s backup after a concussion. In 11 games, he completed 156 of 267 passes for 1,940 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. On 134 carries, he gained 829 yards and 13 touchdowns. In 2013, he led the Bulldogs to a 44–7 win against the Rice Owls. 13 rushing touchdowns, 276 yards, and 4 total touchdowns (2,769). He was named to the 2013 SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll.
In 2014, He led the Bulldogs to a 10–2 regular-season record, their first #1 ranking, and a trip to the Orange Bowl.
