Bruce, at a very young age, got introduced to the world of cinema because his father was a famous opera star. He has even starred in many films when he was a child. In the film titled Golden Gate Girl, Bruce Lee grabbed his first role when he was a child and was carried to the stage.
In the year 1950, when Bruce Lee was 9 years old, he was seen in The Kid, as a co-star with his father. It was based on a comic book character and this was Bruce’s first leading role. And, when he was 20 years old, by then Bruce Lee had already appeared in about twenty films.
Bruce Lee continued martial arts training and abandoned the thought of taking up a film career. But, in the year 1964, at a martial arts exhibition in Long Beach, he got an invitation from William Dozier, who was a television producer. He was asked to audition for a role in the pilot for “Number One Son”. It was about Lee Chan, the son of Charlie Chan. However, the show never developed, but Dozier noticed great dedication in Bruce Lee.
From the year 1966 to 1967, Bruce got the opportunity to play the role of Kato in The Green Hornet. It was a TV series produced and narrated by William Dozier. And, the series was based on a radio show that had an identical name. He acted along with Van Williams, who played the title character. The show aired from September 1966 to March 1967 and lasted for one season comprising 26 episodes.
Williams and Bruce Lee also made an appearance in their respective character, in another William Dozier-produced television series, which were three crossover episodes of Batman.
