Arun is now 62 years old. Arun is most popular for his role as Ram in Ram Anand Sagar’s Ramayan Serial on DD National in 1977. In one interview, Arun confesses that his father wanted him to become a government servant while Arun wanted to do something for which he would be remembered. After completing his studies, he moved to Mumbai to join his brother’s business, but later he urges to acting Hindi Film Industry. He has acted in Hindi, Bhojpuri, Braj Bhasha, Odia and Telugu films and series. He made his debut as Prashanta Nanda’s Paheli in 1977, but he makes his breakthrough after he was cast in Kanak Mishra’s Sawan Ko Aane Do in 1977. After the huge success of Ramayan, he cast in many big projects including the role of Harishchandra in the TV series Vishwamitra and as Lord Buddha in the TV series Buddha.

He was born to Chandra Prakash Govil & has seven siblings include two sisters and five brothers. His elder brother Vijay Govil is married to actress Tabassum. He is happily married to Sreelekha Govil and has a son named Amal Govil and a daughter named Sonika Govil.
Career
After doing dramas in college, he decided to start acting. Govil got his first break of this acting career in Indian cinema in the 1977 film named Paheli. He was introduced to Tarachand Barjatya by his sister-in-law Tabassum. Barjatya was impressed by Govil’s performance in the film, and he signed him a three-film-deal — Kanak Mishra’s Sawan Ko Aane Do in 1979, Vijay Kapoor’s Raadha Aur Seeta in 1979 and Satyen Bose’s Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin in 1979. Sawan Ko Aane Do became a big hit at box office catapulting Govil to stardom. Raadha Aur Seeta was a box office failure while Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin was another success at the box office. He featured in Kanak Mishra’s Jiyo To Aise Jiyo in 1981 which was the 30th biggest hit of that year.
Awards
Arun won the Uptron Award in the Best Actor in a Leading Role category in 1988 for his performance as Ram in Hindi Television Series Ramayan.
Facts
- Once Arun Govil contested in the election for Congress in the late 80s against V.P. Singh. But he lost because most of the voters wrote “Jai Sri Ram” on the ballot papers along with casting a vote in his favour.
