Alex Berenson started his career with The Denver Post as a business reporter in June 1994. He was there for two years before vacating the post to join TheStreet in August 1996, which was a financial news website founded by Jim Cramer. Berenson further joined The New York Times as a business investigative reporter in December 1999. Berenson was involved in covering the occupation of Iraq for the Times in the fall of 2003 and in the summer of 2004.
Berenson was also engaged in covering the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, which concentrated on the issues associated with dangerous drugs. He was also involved in reporting on the Bernard Madoff $50 billion Ponzi scheme scandal, which began in December 2008.
